Childhood Trauma
Challenging experiences with family of origin usually become strongly highlighted once we move away from home and have space to recognize that what happened in the home was less than appropriate. These experiences may have left developmental wounds and impact current functioning. Emotion regulation, mood, relationships, lack of healthy boundaries may all be impacted by early experiences within the family. This may cause increased difficulties in having relationships with the family or the role we allow the family to play in our lives. Ruta supports clients in making sense of their experiences, understanding the current impact and ways the wounds show up today, as well as building skills to gain emotional freedom from the past.
Anxiety
Anxiety shows up in many different forms. From mild nervousness that impacts our ability to sleep before an event to higher severity which includes avoidance, inability to show up for our responsibilities, and intense physical symptoms such as nausea, stomachaches, headaches, excessive sweating… When anxiety impacts daily functioning professional help is needed to identify triggers, process the impact anxiety has on our lives, and create healthy coping skills to increase ability to manage symptoms. Ruta supports clients in identifying and understanding the deeper root cause of their anxiety. Depression
Depression has a significant impact on cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Increased hopelessness, decreased self care, lack of pleasure, isolation, intense sadness or numbness are just a few of the symptoms that may be experienced with depression. Physical symptoms include inability to sleep or sleeping too much which lead to ongoing feelings of exhaustion, loss of appetite, reduced energy and concentration. One may experience a significant decrease in self esteem and an overall sense of not feeling like oneself. Relationship Issues
Relationship issues may be experienced in various forms of relationships such as romantic, parental, sibling, friendships or even with coworkers. Relationship issues may have patterns that are difficult to recognize in the moment and are repeated time after time. This may increase the feeling of hopelessness that we could ever make relationships work. It is not uncommon for individuals to question if a romantic relationship they are in is the right one for them.
Conflict within family relationships increase emotional dysregulation, stress, and may lead to symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Ruta supports clients in understanding their relationships, identifying factors that impact certain behaviors and patterns in relationships, processing the emotional impact relationship issues have on current functioning, and help build healthy connections.
Life transitions
As human beings we like to stay in the comfort zone which makes us resistant to change. However, change is a natural part of moving through developmental stages and life cycles. At times we create change because we want it and have difficulty adjusting. This may include going to college, moving to a new city, moving out of the family home, entering or leaving a relationship. At times we may be forced to make a change before feeling ready and this impacts our ability to transition. This may be due to various losses or new opportunity. Ruta supports clients in managing symptoms that are increasing with difficulty adjusting and transitioning to their new life stage. Ruta supports clients in coping with changes in healthy ways and building a life they enjoy while feeling like their most authentic version of self.
